Mortar Board Awards Dinner 2016

For the first time ever, our Mortar Board chapter held an Awards Dinner for our fall semester in 2016. The purpose of this dinner was to recognize the seniors graduating in the fall, in the same way that we recognize our seniors graduating in the spring at our annual induction dinner.
However, the larger purpose of the event was to celebrate our members and give thanks for our Mortar Board family. We held a Thanksgiving style potluck for our members to enjoy, with everything from the roasted turkey and ham right down to the homemade pecan pie. Our members also got to reap the benefits of their tickets earned through participating in events and meetings all semester long, by joining in on our raffle of Mortar Board prizes.
The main event was, of course, the awards themselves. Two brand-new Mortar Board exclusive awards were introduced at the dinner: the President's Award, and the MVP award. The President's Award is given to members who have shown exemplary dedication and service during the semester to promote the success of the chapter. The MVP awards were given in categories like "Attendance", "Support", and "Volunteerism" to the members who best showed their talents in these respective categories. Last but not least, the highest honor given is the overall MVP award. This award is given to a member who has shown the highest level of dedication and support of Mortar Board values in their academic and personal lives.
This year's Fall 2016 MVP was given to two individuals who were critical in every aspect to the success of the chapter: Ruben Ramirez and Ruben Rodriguez. These Co-MVPs were essential in execution of nearly every event, they were always in attendance at meetings, and provided countless hours of service to both Mortar Board and the surrounding community. Mortar Board Quadrangle Chapter is pleased to honor these individuals with their title and we hope that they continue their excellence after graduation.
At the end of the event we took a moment to honor those members who would be graduating in the fall, and thanked them for all their service to the chapter. These members were then presented with their regalia on behalf of Mortar Board and received a standing ovation before the event came to a conclusion.
In the end, this year's Awards Dinner was a huge success and it really provided recognition for some of our outstanding members this semester. We're so pleased that we could give thanks for our Mortar Board family, and can't wait to begin a new semester in the spring!
