Our Events
Our chapter strives to plan, host, and support events and programs that promote scholarship, leadership, and service. Our events can be small and simple or large and exciting, but they always have a purpose. You can check out our calendar at the bottom of the page or read about our spotlight events below to find out more information about specific events.
Our Spotlight Event

Every year, Mortar Board chapters across the country celebrate our society's birthday on Feb 15th by holding a week long celebration of our ideals and purpose. During this week we hold social, service, scholarship, and leadership events to share with the whole campus. Check out the 2017 Mortar Board Week schedule below to see where we'll be and how you can join in!

Valentines Sale
Pick up a Cake Pop or two from Mortar Board to share with friends, family, or someone special! We'll be selling several varieties of pops in addition to pre-made baskets that make perfect gifts. We'll be scattered across campus on Monday and Tuesday so be sure to stop by!

Book Drive
Bring by your gently used children's books or a small donation to buy books to the front of the library between 10am and 5pm. All donations will be shared with local schools and hospitals. We'll also be looking to sign up volunteers to read to children in the coming weeks as part of our "Reading is Leading" program.

Birthday Party
Join us to celebrate our society's 99th birthday! We'll be holding our party on the mall (weather permitting), from 12pm to 1pm. We'll be serving cake and refreshments, in addition to sharing our ideals and purpose with our friends through games and small toasts.

Leadership Lessons
Learn from students, professors, and community members about how they learned leadership, how they practice it, and what you can do to become a great leader in the format of mini TED talks! We'll be hosting these speakers in Martin Hall from 12:15pm to 1:15pm (free period).

Scholarship Workshop
Visit us and our partners in the Carter Conference Room from 12pm to 1pm to learn where to look for scholarships, how to apply and get recognized, how to write a scholarship essay, and other tips and tricks that can help earn you the scholarship funds you need!

Tapping
A tradition as old as our society itself, tapping new members is our way of welcoming them into our society in a surprising and exciting way. Each member is approached on campus in a class, in the library, or even at lunch as a surprise because the new member names are kept secret until they are tapped. Throughout Mortar Board week our chapter will be tapping in all our new members and honoring them for their achievements in scholarship leadership and service.
